Readout of Secretary Napolitano's Meeting With Business Leaders on Commonsense Immigration Reform

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Acting Director John Sandweg today traveled to Cincinnati where they met with business community leaders to discuss the need for commonsense immigration reform, which is critical to our nation's economic health and prosperity.

"Over the past few months, I have heard from many business leaders about how critical immigration is to businesses. That's why we were encouraged by the passage of the immigration legislation in the U.S. Senate, which would make critical changes to the legal immigration system," said Secretary Napolitano. "Together, these reforms will help us support businesses and improve our economy, while helping us continue to strengthen border security."

During the meeting with leaders from the business community, Secretary Napolitano discussed the need for critical changes to the legal immigration system in order to create a 21st century immigration system that helps businesses continue to grow the economy.

Secretary Napolitano also highlighted this Administration's dedication of historic levels of personnel, technology, and resources to the Southwest border, noting that while challenges will always remain, every metric used to measure border security shows significant progress and improved quality of life in border communities. Commonsense immigration reform will build on this historic progress, enhancing border security, facilitating lawful trade and travel, reuniting families and promoting economic growth.

Earlier in Cincinnati, Secretary Napolitano also delivered remarks at the Fraternal Order of Police 61st National Conference and Exposition highlighting the Department of Homeland Security's collaboration with state and local law enforcement to build a safer, more secure and more resilient nation.
